RIDGE VIEW HS CROSS COUNTRY/DISTANCE
THE COACH
MICHAEL STACKHOUSE III
Girls Head Cross Country Coach
Boys & Girls Distance Coach in Track & Field
ABOUT COACH STACKHOUSE
Coach Stackhouse has been at Ridge View HS for five years; two as an Assistant Coach and the last three as a Head Coach.
When asked what he enjoys most about coaching, Stackhouse noted:
"The growth I see in the athletes I coach from the first day they come into the program till when they are seniors."
Additionally, Coach Stackhouse mentioned something that I also think about often an overlooked part of high school sports, "Also getting groups of kids who normally would never cross paths to be one family."
THE PROGRAM
BACKGROUND
Ridge View HS has historically been one of the top programs in South Carolina. Part of the success at Ridge View is that the when a student-athlete is a part of the team, they are considered family.
Stackhouse wrote, " As a program, I am real big on family. The athletes are like a family and once they leave, and they continue to give back to the future generations."
In 2021, Ridge View had two All-Conference Cross Country performers, Jacob Joe and Macaire N'Twa. In Track & Field, N'Twa was a national Emerging Elite qualifier in the 800 meters, running 1:56.39.
THE WORKOUTS
TRAINING
Stackhouse:
"It honestly depends on the week and also how the athletes are looking."
Non-Meet Week:
Workout days are on Tuesday & Friday.
Race Week:
"We’re going after it Monday and the rest of the week were strictly aerobic."
Strength Training
"We lift twice a week, one day focusing on strength and the other day on lower leg strength (shins , ankles ,etc)"
Track & Field
Stackhouse:
"Monday will be either a speed development day or an aerobic workout. The rest of the week will be mainly aerobic (really big on building the aerobic engine) with the weight room twice a week."
FAVORITE WORKOUT
As a College athlete it was 1K repeats. The coach timed threshold intervals with short rests; something like 3x7 min @ Threshold Pace with 1 min recoveries.
