As an aspiring young distance runner, I came under the influence of Arthur Lydiard in the late 1970s-early 1980s. I met Lydiard in 1981 and he invited me to New Zealand, the invitation I took up in 1984 and stayed with him for a year. Upon returning to Japan in 1986, I was recruited to become a professional corporate running team coach at Hitachi, Ltd., where I served as a coach for 3 years. I now reside in Minnesota with my wife and a dog, and have incorporated a new NPO, International Running Academy, about to launch running certificate program based on Lydiard training method in the upcoming 2024.
